World Cultural Heritage Bamberg

The title "World Cultural Heritage" was awarded by Unesco to the entire old town of Bamberg not without reason. Bamberg with its historic townscape offers a special atmosphere. The city is a masterpiece of European urban planning history. Only the 1000th anniversary of the diocese was celebrated with a big celebration in July 2007.

Bamberg in summer

As a city of beer, Bamberg offers the visitor a large number of cosy beer cellars where the numerous Bamberg beers can be tasted. Those who prefer to refresh themselves without alcohol can book a boat tour on the Regnitz and experience the Bamberg sights, such as "Little Venice" from the water.

The "Sandkerwa", with around 300,000 visitors, is one of the largest public festivals in Bavaria and an experience of a special kind. It takes place every year in August and attracts young and old from near and far.

You can also visit the city with its beautiful nativity scenes at Christmas time. It is not for nothing that Bamberg is not only called a world cultural heritage site - but also a city of nativity scenes. With its newly designed Christmas exhibition, the Krippenmusem offers a unique selection of the most varied, above all historical Christmas cribs according to origin, age and material.

The Bamberg Christmas market on Maximiliansplatz is also worth a visit. In addition to the usual stands, numerous nativity scenes can also be admired here.
